About this course

Over this 4-hour session you will cover the steps needed to guide you through the legalities of setting up a therapy business, including how to self-promote with the use of social media. This course is designed to give you the tools required to explore becoming self-employed or volunteering in the holistic industry. This course is great as a starter or as an awareness if you are recently new to self-employment

On this course, we will look at what the cobra system is and how this relates to Nottinghamshire Libraries. We will cover the basics of select therapies and what certificate levels are required to become self-employed in those fields. You will go through the legalities required, and what insurance cover is required. Look into local authorities, who to notify and when, during the business startup process.

We will also touch upon business banking basics. Setting up your UTR (unique tax reference number) and research if you need to be part of any associations related to your holistic therapy. Finally, we will explore marketing and website design - should you pay or design your own? The information is based on Wix sites. (others are available) We will also cover how to self-promote through social media. You will understand how to use hashtags to optimise your visibility through Search Engine Optimisation (SEO).

What you will need to bring to the course:

It is advisable to bring a bottle of water to keep hydrated . Along with pen and paper for notes/journal purposes

Residency in England

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must be living in England permanently and live outside of the devolved areas listed below or live within the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA) devolved area (Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire).

Residency Eligibility – other criteria

If you are living in the UK on a visa we will require evidence of this in order to be funded for the course, you can upload this evidence when you apply for the course. (completion of a questionnaire will be required).

Some exceptions may apply for example

  • Your visa expiry date must be beyond the end of your course

  • Asylum seekers must have lived in the UK for 6 months or longer while their claim is being considered by the Home Office

  • You are receiving local authority support under section 23C or section 23CA of the Children Act 1989 or the Care Act 2014
