About this course

The aim of the course is to provide more basic language skills to develop use of a phrase book. 

It is suitable for adults who want more guidance on their pronunciation and how to learn important phrases for getting by in a modern foreign language: Spanish.  


There will be more practice and coverage of the future, present and past tenses at this level. 


Some grammar constructions will be covered to aid learners’ progress. 


What will be covered on the course?  What will be taught to learners? 

  • Basic topics will be covered, such as, introductions and greetings, revision of the Spanish-speaking countries and their capitals, more ordinal numbers and directions, likes and dislikes, leisure time activities, shopping, and daily routine, making a telephone call.  
  • Listening to questions and giving a suitable answer, asking questions and listening to the answer, and repetition of key vocabulary, will be essentials. Grammar support will be given.  
  • Capturing key vocabulary and phrases will be encouraged. In the speaking and listening use of a phrase book is optional and will be encouraged to communicate effectively.  

What will learners achieve by the end of the course? 

  • Learners will extend their grammar and vocabulary to enable them to get more coverage of their Spanish phrase book and use it more effectively. Learners should gain more confidence in their Spanish-speaking.  
  • A motivational course for those who have done some Spanish studies in the past and want to refresh and extend their studies in the near future. Increased ability in the use of modern technologies, such as, Spanish applications like Duolingo.  


What skills or knowledge do learners already need to have to attend the course? 

  • Previous attendance on Spanish for beginners or equivalent so that learners can use basic greetings, recognize and pronounce most of the alphabet and use some numbers.  

‘Duolingo’ app users and ‘MEMRISE’ app users at introductory levels. 

The pace can be adjusted to suit the learners as the use of individual learning plans are encouraged to assist this and gain confidence. 

You will need:

  • Any phrasebook, such as: 
  • Berlitz Spanish phrase book & dictionary 

As this course is online, a suitable device such as laptop, smart phone, tablet or computer will be required to access the course.  Zoom will be used for the live sessions and the link will be sent to you once your enrolment has been completed.

To secure your place on the course BOTH the following must be done:

  • Complete the EVENTBRITE BOOKING.
  • Complete our INSPIRE ONLINE ENROLMENT FORM for each person attending the course.

You should be redirected to the Inspire Online Enrolment Form after completing the Eventbrite booking.  If you are not redirected, please use the link supplied in the Eventbrite booking confirmation email.

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).

As we no longer receive funding for our ESFA-funded courses for learners living in the devolved areas listed below, full cost fees would apply to these courses if you live in these areas:
