About this course

Discover the calming art of mindful doodling in this five-week course. If you can write an L, O, S, and C, you can Zendoodle! Learn simple shapes and patterns, explore shading and blending with a tortillon, and gently add colour if you like. Each week includes guided demonstrations and plenty of time to create your own designs. Celebrate your creativity with a small, finished project in the final session — no pressure, just relaxation and fun.

This 5-week course introduces learners to mindful, expressive doodling—an easy, relaxing art form sometimes compared to Zentangle® but with a looser, more intuitive approach. You will explore how simple lines and shapes can be used to build decorative patterns and calming compositions. Each week introduces new marks and design techniques, gradually building confidence in drawing and creativity. Through guided exercises and optional finished mini projects such as bookmarks or greeting cards, you will develop your own style and appreciation for line, rhythm, repetition, and contrast. Techniques such as shading and optional colour will be introduced to add depth and flair. You will also gain an understanding of how to use blending tools (like a tortillon) to create subtle tonal effects.

No previous drawing experience is necessary. If you can write the letters l, o, s, and c, you can Zen doodle!

Please bring to the course with you:-

  • A sketchbook or plain paper (A4 or A5 size) Smooth paper is better than textured

  • A pencil and eraser (HB graphite will be easier to use but any pencil will do)

  • A fine liner or black pen any size; a 0.3 or 0.5 is ideal (if you wish to use watercolours later in the course you will need waterproof pens such as pigma micron pens)

  • A tortillon or blending stump for shading

  • Optional: colouring pencils, pens or water colours if you wish to explore colour later in the course
