Join Byron expert and author, Geoffrey Bond, who will be talking about his latest book - Byron’s Manor: Birthplace of His Poetry, exploring Byron’s early poetry and letters to reveal that the birthplace of his poetry is Burgage Manor in Southwell, where Byron lived as a teenager (1803-1808) and where Geoffrey Bond has also lived for more than 30 years.

Speaking from the rare vantage point of a Byron author living in a Byron house and writing a book about Byron in the room where Byron wrote much of his early poetry, Bond will take audiences through the poet’s early life in Southwell and will show that it was whilst living in Burgage Manor that Byron wrote his first collections of poems.

Inspired by his friend and neighbour, Elizabeth Pigot, Byron had his first four collections of poetry printed by the Ridge brothers in Newark. Byron then went on to become one of the most famous men in Europe – as famous as Napoleon in his day – and sold “more poems in a normal afternoon than Shelley and Keats did during the whole of their lives.” (William St Clair).

Please note that copies of Byron’s Manor: Birthplace of His Poetry will be available for sale after the talk, with payment accepted in cash or by cheque.
