Marcus Farnsworth will present a short pop-up concert in the library's café area.

Marcus founded the Southwell Music Festival in 2014 to celebrate his home town and its glorious Minster, and to bring together musicians of local, national and international standing in the heart of Nottinghamshire.

Born in Nottingham and raised in Southwell, Marcus owes much of his artistic education to his late mother, the dance teacher and choreographer, Alison Willett. He was a chorister at Southwell Minster and went on to study at Chetham’s School of Music, the University of Manchester and the Royal Academy of Music. Marcus was made an Associate of the RAM in 2015, and in 2019 was appointed as Head of Vocal and Choral Studies at Chetham’s. Since January 2023 he has been Musical Director of the Southwell Choral Society.

He has appeared as a principal artist with opera companies in the UK and abroad including English National Opera, Welsh National Opera, Bergen National Opera, Boston Lyric Opera and Teatro Real Madrid. Equally at home on the concert platform, Marcus has performed and recorded extensively with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, Gabrieli Consort, Academy of Ancient Music, Arcangelo, and Aurora Orchestra. He is also a keen advocate for new music and has given many first performances.

Southwell Music Festival runs from 22nd - 25th August and the full line-up can be found here:  www.southwellmusicfestival.com/
