About Wayward Objects

Michelle Reader. WheelbarrowHarley1. 2026

Wayward Objects is a puppet theatre company founded in 2025 by artist Michelle Reader, growing out of nearly thirty years of making sculpture and community art from found and recycled materials. Supported by Mansfield District Council and based at the Harley Foundation, Welbeck Estate, Nottinghamshire.

Tales from the Wheelbarrow has been performed at Nottingham Puppet Cabaret and Mansfield Museum, will appear at the Harley Foundation in May, and will tour Nottingham city libraries and community gardens as part of Nottingham Puppet Festival in June 2026.

Wayward Objects are coming to the National Civil War Centre to perform Tales from the Wheelbarrow on Thursday 4 June at 12pm. Visit palacenewark.com to book your FREE tickets!

Meet Olive, the puppet park-keeper on a mission to tackle
litter, and Teaspoon, an anarchic bird made entirely from discarded materials. Their story unfolds on
and around a life-sized wheelbarrow, where everyday objects become creatures,
and tools take on curious new forms. As Olive attempts to tidy the park, she
has unexpected encounters with wildlife and curious visitors. A playful
adventure for family audiences, with live music and puppetry, from Michelle
Reader and Steno Vitale.
