On Saturday 3 October, Worksop Library hosted its ninth Fun Palace event, with FREE drop-in activities designed to encourage people of all ages to engage with arts, science and culture.

Visitors arrived between 10am and 3pm to take part in activities including crafts, sensory play, science fun and much more. The day was also filled with music, with the Langold Dyscarr School Choir delighting us with their singing, and uplifting performances from Inspire Music’s own Red Hot Band, and Dukeries Ukeries Ukulele Band. We also had a visit from two curious aliens, thanks to funding from Pride in Place.

The library welcomed local community groups and organisations including: Langold Dyscarr School Choir, The Harley Gallery, From The Heart Charity, The National Trust (Clumber Park & Mr Straw’s House), Now Church (Langold), Veolia, BCVS, UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), Oasis Community Centre, Aurora Wellbeing Centre, Citizens Advice North Notts, Girl Guiding Nottinghamshire, Fostering East Midlands, NextGen Learning, Dukeries Ukeries Ukulele Band, Bassetlaw Foodbank, and Friends of Woodland & Coachwood Green.

Science has always played a big part at the Fun Palace in Worksop and this year was no exception. The UK Atomic Energy Authority returned with fun STEM activities including a robot dog and giant plasma ball. We also welcomed NextGen Learning Club for the first time, who brought fun hands-on robotics. Families enjoyed getting involved and exploring science.

During the event, Inspire’s I Am A Maker Exhibition was on display in the library’s gallery. Inspire worked with five professional artist makers to develop their creative practices for target groups; to work collaboratively and engage creatively to produce co-created artworks for the I Am A Maker Exhibition! Children also discovered their creative side, and enjoyed making their own fabulous creations with I Am A Maker artists; Chris Campbell (artist and sculptor) and Loree Bologna (jewellery designer).

The library team provided fun activities for the younger ones, with spin pictures, Bee-Bots, VR headsets, as well as the favourite badge-making machine. Inspire Learning provided opportunities to explore stop motion animation, and colourful crafts.

Here's some feedback we received about the day:

"The whole event had
such a brilliant feel to it."

"A brilliant day for
everyone."

"It was
fantastic to see so many people, especially so many children, getting involved
and enjoying the activities."

"So many different stalls and so much
engagement!"

Thank you so much to everyone who played a part in making this such a great day for our local community.

We look forward to welcoming everyone to next year's Fun Palace at Worksop Library on Saturday 2 October 2027!
