Warsop Library Celebrates its 70th Birthday

Published 27th October 2026

Warsop Library celebrated the 70th anniversary of its opening on Tuesday 27 October with a special celebration event.

Customers were invited to enjoy library and heritage displays, an exhibition, crafts and activities, and something no Inspire celebration is complete without – cake!

The current Warsop Library building opened in 1956. Previously, the library was located in a dedicated room in the Warsop Town Hall building. You can see the word LIBRARY over one of the side entrances to the hall on Church Street.

The following photographs taken in the 1960s shows the dark wooden shelving and polished parquet flooring typical of public libraries of the time. Since then, the library has seen several refurbishments with the most recent in 2009.

Warsop Library is part of Inspire: Culture, Learning and Libraries. Created by Nottinghamshire County Council in 2016, Inspire is also celebrating a milestone birthday in 2026, as it marks a decade of bringing together libraries, adult and community learning, music, culture, heritage, and arts under one innovative organisation.

The library continues to inspire imaginations and give access to information, as well as offering a range of activities and events for the community including Rattle, Rhyme, and Roll for under 5s, a Places of Welcome group, Craft and Chat and a bereavement group.

Warsop Library is open on Tuesdays and Fridays 9.30am – 5pm, and Wednesdays and Saturdays 9.30am – 1pm*.
