About this course

This course introduces you to the basic of acrylic painting. The course helps you to understand the media, how to use tools and materials, how to mixed and apply the paint on the surface.  


The painting course is suitable for Beginners.


What will be covered on the course? Understanding the properties of the materials. How to select and use them. 

  • Prepare the painting surface 
  • Make a’ stay-wet palette’ and how to layout a palette 
  • Dilute the paint to the right consistency 
  • Experiment with colour by mixing the paint  on your surface and on palette 
  • How to use varnish and to maintain your tools 
  • Health and Safety 

What will learners achieve by the end of the course? 

  • Learners will know how to prepare the surface, to sketch, to draw and how to mix and apply the paint on the surface using different tools. They will complete several exercises on paper or canvas using acrylics. 

What skills or knowledge do learners already need to have to attend the course? 

  • None 

What should learners bring?

  • 40 x 50 cm Stretched canvas/ Canvas board, acrylic paper/sketch pad, Cadmium Red, Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Yellow, Lemon Yellow, Cobalt Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Burnt Umber, Titanium and Zinc White acrylic paint, white acrylic  gesso, palette, glycerin, spray bottle, a range of synthetic paint brushes, graphite pencils,  metal palette knife, silicone spatula, baby wipes, cotton rags, photo reference

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).
