About this course

How much do we really communicate without words? This engaging course explores how we consciously and unconsciously reveal our feelings and intentions through body language - and how to interpret these signals more effectively in others.

Grounded in scientific research, you’ll learn to question common myths about “reading people” while developing a more realistic understanding of how non-verbal cues work in everyday interactions. We’ll examine how body language shapes first impressions and influences communication, as well as how subtle behaviours can reveal comfort, discomfort, and underlying emotion.

Through illustrations, demonstrations, video and discussion, the course covers a wide range of topics, including gestures, micro-expressions, mirroring and matching, barriers, pacifiers and intention signals. You’ll explore how people often “leak” their true feelings - and how your own body language can be adapted to communicate more confidently and effectively.

No prior knowledge is required - just a curiosity about human behaviour. By the end, you’ll have a clearer sense of both the possibilities and limitations of interpreting body language, along with practical ways to enhance your own non-verbal communication.

Resources: A pc or laptop with internet access.

Residency Requirements (Additional Information)

If you live in the UK on a visa, we’ll need evidence of your visa to confirm funding. You can upload this when applying, and you’ll need to complete a short questionnaire.

Some exceptions include:

Your visa must last until after your course ends.
Asylum seekers must have lived in the UK for at least 6 months while their claim is being processed.
You are supported by your local authority under Section 23C or 23CA of the Children Act 1989, or under the Care Act 2014.

Anyone who does not meet the funding criteria would need to pay full course fees.
