About this course

Following on from your previous calligraphy courses, join this projects based course to plan, design and produce ideas for cards and envelopes using one or more calligraphy hands. We will use mainly Foundational and Uncial script. This course is not suitable for complete beginners. You will need to have attended the Calligraphy for Beginner Course. There is plenty of help, individual demonstration and guidance.

We use Calligraphy Markers (and not dip ink pens) which are easy to use for either right- or left-handed writers. You’ll learn how to create simple colour washes, layout ideas and transferring designs to cards. We’ll explore how to use calligraphy for envelopes too.

What will learners achieve by the end of the course?

  • To create card designs using Foundational Hand (or more calligraphy hands).

  • To produce a finished design using a 10cm x 15cm card size.

  • To develop simple designs (using simple colour ideas).

What you will need to bring to the course:

Clairefontaine Goldline Layout Pad, A4, 50 gsm, 80 Sheets – or equivalent (available at Arnold Library Shop).

Calligraphy Marker Pen (this is a double-ended pen with a 2mm and a 3.5mm nib) these are available at the Arnold Library Shop.

Blank card and envelope pack (4” x 6” size or similar)

Pencil and eraser

30cm (12 inch) ruler

Protractor

Paperclips/bulldog clip or a clipboard
