About this course

This project based macrame course is great for Beginners or those that completed Macrame for Beginners (difference projects to previous years).

The festive season is here soon, why not try some macrame, you could use these projects as way to relax from the stress of Christmas or spark of idea to start a mini craft business.

This year's projects are wreath, Poinsettia or Christmas Rose and Holly. The focus of this course will be on 3 main macrame knots. In the course the projects are designed to introduce you to Double Half Hitch, Square Knot and Half Knot, using 3mm twisted ply macrame cord and some additional items (check the materials requirements). So don't get into Knots about Christmas; take the time to relax with this Christmas Macramé mini course, Macrame is a relaxing and therapeutic craft, as it keeps your hands busy and gives your mind time to rest. There is no previous experience necessary to complete this course, just a desire to have a try, as we will go over the basic knots.

What will learners achieve by the end of the course?

Master Basic Knots: learners will accurately tie the Square Knot, Half Knot, and Double Half Hitch, demonstrating consistency in tension and execution. Recognize Materials and Tools: learners will identify and select appropriate macramé cords and tools.

Evaluate – By the end of the course,

  • learners will assess their completed macramé projects, and identify at least two areas for improvement.

  • Develop Pattern Reading Skills: learners will interpret and follow a basic macramé pattern independently.

  • Understand Pricing and Costs: learners will calculate the cost of materials and time for a single macramé project, enabling them to price their products effectively for profit.

  • Explore Business Platforms: learners will identify and evaluate three potential platforms or marketplaces (e.g., Etsy, Instagram) for selling their macramé products.

What you will need for the course:

  • Macrame cord (*) - require 3mm twisted ply cord (requirements for projects), but can be worked in other style of cords

  • Knotting Board/Cork board

  • T – Pins or holding pins (useful but not essential – tutor has some to use in class)

  • Tape measure

  • Small dried sticks or cinnamon sticks

  • Curtain ring (one or two)

  • Scissors

  • Beads that your cord can pass through (Ie largest holes)

Residency in England

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must be living in England permanently and live outside of the devolved areas listed below or live within the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA) devolved area (Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire).

Residency Eligibility – other criteria

If you are living in the UK on a visa we will require evidence of this in order to be funded for the course, you can upload this evidence when you apply for the course. (completion of a questionnaire will be required).

Some exceptions may apply for example

  • Your visa expiry date must be beyond the end of your course

  • Asylum seekers must have lived in the UK for 6 months or longer while their claim is being considered by the Home Office

  • You are receiving local authority support under section 23C or section 23CA of the Children Act 1989 or the Care Act 2014

Any learner who is not funded full cost fees would apply to these courses.
