About this course

This is project based macramé, course is great for beginners or those that completed Macramé, for Beginners (difference projects to previous years) and will introduce you to the craft of macramé, with a festive focus on creating a trio of Christmas tree decorations. Using accessible techniques and step-by-step guidance, you will explore both traditional knotting methods and creative design approaches to produce stylish, contemporary festive pieces.

The course supports gradual skill-building while encouraging personal creativity.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

Demonstrate at least three core macramé knots (e.g. square knot, half knot, lark’s head knot) with consistent tension and control.
Produce a coordinated trio of macramé Christmas trees, showing clear structure, balance, and secure finishing techniques.
Measure, prepare, and manage materials independently, including calculating cord lengths for different project sizes.
Apply creative design skills by selecting colours, textures, and decorative elements to personalise their Christmas tree set.
Plan and complete a project within a set timeframe, demonstrating time management and organisational skills.

You will need:

Macrame cord - 3mm twisted ply cord, but can be worked in other style of cords
Knotting Board/Cork board
T – Pins or holding pins (useful but not essential – tutor has some to use in class)
Tape measure
Small dried sticks or cinnamon sticks
Curtain ring (one or two)
Scissors
Beads that your cord can pass through (i.e. largest holes)

Residency Requirements (Additional Information)

If you live in the UK on a visa, we’ll need evidence of your visa to confirm funding. You can upload this when applying, and you’ll need to complete a short questionnaire.

Some exceptions include:

Your visa must last until after your course ends.
Asylum seekers must have lived in the UK for at least 6 months while their claim is being processed.
You are supported by your local authority under Section 23C or 23CA of the Children Act 1989, or under the Care Act 2014.

Anyone who does not meet the funding criteria would need to pay full course fees.
