About this course

Autumn is a time of change, moving towards the stillness of winter. Poets and writers have written about it with sadness and melancholy, but also joy at the vibrant autumn colours. On this course, you will use a variety of visual and written prompts to express what you want to say about the autumn, whether that’s writing poetry or prose. The course is particularly suitable for beginners, but those who have some writing experience are welcome also.

What will be covered on the course? What will be taught to learners?

Using images and memories to ignite ideas for writing
Engaging your reader by using your five senses to write
Understanding and using similes and metaphors
Sharing your work with the group and hearing others’ poems

What will learners achieve by the end of the course?

You will have written or drafted one or more Autumn-inspired pieces of writing
You will appreciate the power of writing from your senses and your experience
You will be able to recognize a metaphor in a poem and use it as a writing technique
You will have read your work to the group, listened to others’ work and given feedback

You will need:

Pen and paper

As this course is online, a suitable device such as laptop, smart phone, tablet or computer will be required to access the course. Zoom will be used for the live sessions and the link will be sent to you once your enrolment has been completed.
