About this course

If you’ve always been interested in creative writing, but don’t know where to start, why not join this beginner's course and begin your journey. This is an introduction to writing and includes developing summary skills, writing short pieces of fiction and factual writing.

What will be covered on the course?

We will practice picking out key information and summarising it
We will look at published work and analyse the writing
We will take part in a variety of written exercises to practice different styles of writing
We will consider appropriate content and vocabulary and discuss individual ideas
Learners will practice writing through a variety of exercises and will be given feedback to enable improvement

What will learners achieve by the end of the course?

To recall technical terms
To understand how to summarise key information
To analyse the techniques used in published writing
To apply knowledge by trying out a range of pieces of writing
To evaluate own and others’ work by giving and receiving peer feedback
To create a piece of creative writing

Learners should bring paper and a pen (laptop if preferred) to the session.

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).
