About this course

Suitable for those who have already done an Inspire Poetry course or who have made a start on their own poetry writing, this course will build on existing skills and experience. We will look at your distinctive use of form , structure, imagery, metaphor and sound and much more with the help of contemporary published poets in relaxed, supportive workshop - style sessions

What will be covered on the course

Movements within poetry in the modern era
Form, structure, meaning and metaphor
Rhyme forms, sound and rhythm
Experimental and Found poetry
Developing your critical responses to you own work and others
Understanding the contemporary poetic scene

What will learners achieve by the end of the course?

Learners will:

Have written at least 4 new poems and have several drafts underway
Have been gently challenged and stimulated to improve and develop their work
Learned more about techniques and resources in writing a poem
Know more about contemporary poetry and poets
Have developed their capacity to offer and receive critical feedback

What skills or knowledge do learners already need to have to attend the course?

Basic experience of poetry writing
Capacity to speak and write English
