About this course

Suitable for those who have already done an Inspire Poetry course or who have made a start on their own poetry writing, this course will build on existing skills and experience.  We will look at your distinctive use of form , structure, imagery,  metaphor and sound and much more with the help of contemporary published poets in relaxed, supportive workshop - style sessions 


What will be covered on the course 

  • Movements within poetry in the modern era 
  • Form, structure, meaning and metaphor 
  • Rhyme forms, sound and rhythm 
  • Experimental and Found poetry  
  • Developing your critical responses to you own work and others 
  • Understanding the contemporary poetic scene 

What will learners achieve by the end of the course?  

Learners will:  

  • Have written at least 4 new poems and have several drafts underway 
  • Have been gently challenged and stimulated to improve and develop their work 
  • Learned more about  techniques and resources in writing a poem  
  • Know more about contemporary poetry and poets 
  • Have developed their capacity to offer and receive critical feedback 

What skills or knowledge do learners already need to have to attend the course? 

  • Basic experience of poetry writing 
  • Capacity to speak and write English

  • Pens and paper

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).
