About this course

About this course

A place where inspiration flickers and ideas flourish, a well-loved notebook is the most important tool in any writer’s arsenal.

Over this course we’ll explore just why that is. With an emphasis on experimentation and making your notebook invaluable to you, we’ll look at ways to fill your blank pages, generate ideas and establish a writing routine that keeps the dread writers block at bay.

This course is not about the rules of writing, or instructions on how to be a writer. Instead it’s about helping you develop your own writing practice, and we will work through a wide range of techniques to help you discover the ones that work for you.

First and foremost we’ll do this by writing. We’ll use idea sparks and writing exercises that don’t just ignite your imagination but push your writing boundaries and help you access your own creativity, in a way that feels exciting but enjoyable.

We will also look at the experiences of other writers, what filled their notebooks and the ways they kept writing. We’ll discuss the benefits of different writing routines and habits and explore ways to keep your words flowing even when inspiration feels impossible.

What will learners achieve by the end of the course?

  • By the end of this short course you will:
  • Be able to list a variety of places you can look for inspiration and ways you can spark ideas for writing
  • Be able to explain the benefits of using a notebook for a writer
