Crochet Next Steps - Worksop Library - Adult Learning

Take your crochet skills further with this five-week “Next Steps” course designed for those who already know the basics. You’ll build confidence by learning how to crochet in the round using soft chenille yarn to create a simple amigurumi figure, explore a new granny square or blanket motif, and finish by planning and starting your own crochet project with tutor support. This course is a relaxed, creative way to expand your crochet techniques while working on projects you’ll love.

Over the five sessions, you’ll develop your existing crochet skills through guided projects and individual support.

In Week 1, you’ll refresh your core techniques and learn how to crochet in the round using increases and decreases to shape a small amigurumi design. The use of soft chenille yarn will allow for quick results and an enjoyable, tactile project.

In Week 2, you’ll explore a new granny square, experimenting with colour combinations.

In Week 3 you will make a simple crochet flower to use as a brooch or to attach to a hat.

In Week 4, 5 you’ll bring along a project idea of your choice — perhaps a pattern you’ve always wanted to try — and your tutor will guide you through reading, planning, and starting your chosen piece, helping you build the confidence to continue it independently after the course.

Some experience of basic crocheting (chain, double crochet, treble crochet, and working in the round) is required.

Resources required:

Crochet hooks (sizes 4mm and 8mm)

Chenille and DK yarn – Light colours of choice

Scissors and a darning needle for finishing

Stitch markers (optional)
