Unlock the skills you already have with Discover Your Work Skills. This friendly, practical course will help you identify strengths gained through work, family life, volunteering, learning and hobbies, before showing you how those strengths can transfer into new opportunities. You will complete a personal skills audit, explore job-related and transferable skills, practise describing your abilities using real evidence and create a personal skills profile. By the end of the session, you will be able to identify at least 10 skills, match your strengths to a suitable role or course, produce convincing STAR examples and set a SMART goal for your next step.
By the end of the 4.5-hour course, you will be able to:
Identify at least 10 skills, strengths or positive work behaviours gained through employment, education, caring, volunteering, hobbies or everyday responsibilities.
Classify at least eight examples as technical, transferable, personal or work-readiness skills, explaining where a skill could fit into more than one category.
Complete a structured skills audit, rating at least 15 skills and providing evidence for five of the ratings.
Produce three evidence statements using a structured example such as Situation, Task, Action and Result.
Compare your skills with the requirements of one suitable job, course or volunteering opportunity, identifying at least five matches and two possible gaps.
Create a personal skills profile containing at least five priority skills supported by specific evidence.
Write one SMART skills-development goal and identify at least two actions or sources of support.
