About this course

Our online Dyslexia awareness (introduction) course will explore the ways in which people living with dyslexia can learn effectively and the contributions their learning differences make.

What will be covered on the course?  What will be taught to learners?

What is dyslexia? Gain awareness of the multi-sensory impact of dyslexia
Models of dyslexia: Understand different ways in which dyslexia is defined and how these impact on people’s self esteem
Obtaining a diagnosis Discover how to access a diagnostic assessment, and organisations which can offer this
Assistive technology and human support: Gain insight into the benefits of mentoring and of various additive technologies

What will learners achieve by the end of the course

By the end of the course, learners will know how dyslexia affects people; the strengths which dyslexia can give; how dyslexia can be perceived as part of a rich pattern of human diversity; how to access assessment and diagnosis; where and how to obtain human support and assistive technology

What skills or knowledge do learners already need to have to attend the course?

This is a short, introductory course for people with little or no knowledge of dyslexia or the support available. It is very suitable for parents of children with dyslexia seeking guidance on what dyslexia is, its impact, and sources of support, or for adults who think they might have dyslexia but need more knowledge and insight about it and about how to access assessment and support.

As this course is online, a suitable device such as laptop, smart phone, tablet or computer will be required to access the course. Zoom will be used for the live sessions and the link will be sent to you once your enrolment has been completed

To secure your place on the course BOTH the following must be done:

Complete our INSPIRE ONLINE ENROLMENT FORM for each person attending the course.

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).

As we no longer receive funding for our ESFA-funded courses for learners living in the devolved areas listed below, full cost fees would apply to these courses if you live in these areas:
