About this course

This introduction to electricity course is designed to help learners understand the concept of electrical currents, static electricity, conductors, insulators, electrical circuits, voltage and resistance.

During this course, you will be able to demonstrate your abilities to illustrate simple electrical circuits with the utilization of universal circuit symbols and make accurate calculations of current, voltage and resistance within circuits by using Ohm's law. You will also learn of the devices used to determine the current, voltage and resistance in circuits, as well as safety devices such as fuses and circuit breakers which aid in protecting circuits and appliances.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

Define the types of Electricity (Static and Current)
Dangers of and safety measures for working with static electricity
Define an electric current and describe the types of current
Describe conductors and insulators
Describe sources of electricity (mains, cells, batteries)
Describe the types of circuits (series and parallel)
Draw circuit diagrams for series and parallel circuits and identify basic circuit symbols (lamp, wire, switch, battery)
Describe what resistance is and how it is measured in circuits (what instrument is used and how it is placed in the circuit)
Discuss safety devices used to protect circuits (fuses, surge protectors, circuit breakers)

As this course is online, a suitable device such as laptop, smart phone, tablet or computer will be required to access the course. Zoom will be used for the live sessions and the link will be sent to you once your enrolment has been completed.
