About this course

The Essential Digital Skills Qualification (EDSQ) provides the skills you need to safely access and participate in the digital world. This qualification is suitable for all ages and supports the development of key digital skills such as using devices, creating and editing digital media, using technology to communicate, buying and transacting online, and how to stay safe and secure when using technology.

Topics

1. Being safe and responsible online and on digital devices

Learners will understand being safe and responsible online and on digital devices. Learners will gain knowledge and skills in using multiple authentications, understanding a range of data threats and being physically and psychologically safe when using digital devices.

2. Using digital devices and handling information

Learners will understand using devices and handling data. Learners will gain knowledge and skills in searching, managing and storing information using digital devices.

3. Creating and editing

Learners will understand creating, editing and enhancing digital media. Learners will gain knowledge and skills in using digital devices to edit and enhance a range of digital media, including Microsoft Word and Excel.

4. Digital communication

Learners will understand digital communication. Learners will gain the knowledge and skills in a range of digital communication modes, such as email, instant messaging, social media, vlogs/blogs, collaboration tools and forums.

5. Transacting digitally

Learners will understand using online transactional services. Transactional services include shopping, finance, utilities, government services and entertainment. Learners will gain knowledge and skills of comparing and purchasing safely online.

Learners will require a laptop with access to Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Learners will also need a laptop that can access the internet.

Laptops are available to use if Learners do not have access to their own personal device. Please ensure you request a laptop at time of booking.

The course materials have been designed around Microsoft Windows 10, Microsoft Edge and Microsoft Office 365, although other web browsers and earlier versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access should be fine.

To secure your place on the course BOTH the following must be done:

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).
