About this course

Discover the joy of painting flowers in a vibrant, expressive style using acrylics. You will learn how to move beyond fine detail and focus on colour, movement, texture, and emotion. Through demonstrations and practical exercises, you'll explore bold brushwork, expressive mark-making, and creative techniques to capture the beauty and essence of flowers with confidence and freedom. Suitable for beginners and developing artists alike.

Through demonstrations, practical exercises, and guided projects, you'll explore modern landscape techniques while developing your own creative style and confidence. This course is suitable for learners who want to loosen their approach, experiment with new ideas, and create bold, expressive landscape paintings.

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • Use expressive brushwork and mark-making techniques.

  • Mix and apply vibrant acrylic colours, avoiding muddy tones.

  • Simplify floral shapes and forms to capture the essence and character of flowers rather than focusing on intricate detail.

  • Create texture and visual interest using a variety of tools, including brushes, palette knives, and non-traditional mark-making tools.

  • Complete an original floral painting that reflects individual style and creativity.

  • Develop social skills to help you with voluntary work / community projects

Resources you will need to bring:

Acrylic or watercolour paper A3 pad, white acrylic gesso, 40x 50cm or A4 stretched canvas, acrylic paint (Lemon Yellow, Cadmium Yellow, Ultramarine Blue, Cobalt Blue, Magenta, Cadmium Red, Titanium White), synthetic brushes
