About this course

On this course, you will learn how to paint flower compositions in acrylics in a semi-abstract style. You will learn how to achieve different effects using a range of tools and materials. This course will help you to create wonderful paintings and gives a feeling of mastery and accomplishment. Being able to choose the design, you will end up with unique paintings. The course is suitable for beginners. 


The course covers tips and tricks on how to successfully paint flowers: 


- Selecting appropriate photo references 

- Analysing examples of flower paintings in the work of different artists 

- Using different tools to create mark-making 

- Colour mixing saturated versus non saturated colours 

- Learning how to use complementary colours 

- Depicting details: hard edges versus soft edges 

- Blending technique 


Resources required by attendees

  • 30 x 40 cm stretched canvas
  • canvas board
  •  acrylic paper
  • sketch pad
  • acrylic paint* (Cadmium Red, Alizarin Crimson, Magenta, Cadmium Yellow, Lemon Yellow, Cobalt Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Burnt Umber, Titanium White acrylic paint), white acrylic  
  • gesso
  • palette
  • glycerin
  • spray bottle
  •  a range of synthetic paint brushes
  • graphite pencils
  • metal palette knife
  • silicone spatula
  •  baby wipes
  • cotton rags 

The art materials are to be discussed during the first session of the course when the tutor will cover the topic.

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.
