About this course

In this course, you will learn how to express yourself creatively by painting flower compositions in acrylics, in a semi-abstract style. You will learn how to achieve different effects using a range of tools and materials. Learners may choose the design, ending up with unique paintings in a loose style. The course is suitable for improvers – for those who have completed the beginner’s course with Inspire or have other experience/knowledge of painting floral paintings in acrylics.

The course covers tips and tricks on how to successfully paint flowers :

Rules of composition and the principles of painting
Using different tools to create mark-making
Colour mixing: saturated versus non saturated colours
Using mediums to manipulate the paint
Depicting details: hard edges versus soft edges
Blending, layering and impasto technique

30 x 40 cm stretched canvas/ canvas board
acrylic paper/sketch pad
acrylic paint* (Cadmium Red, Alizarin Crimson, Magenta, Cadmium Yellow, Lemon Yellow, Cobalt Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Burnt Umber, Titanium White acrylic paint), white acrylic
gesso
palette
glycerin
spray bottle
a range of synthetic paint brushes
graphite pencils
metal palette knife
silicone spatula
baby wipes
cotton rags

The art materials are to be discussed during the first session of the course when the tutor will cover the topic.
