About this course

The course is suitable for learners with some experience of drawing and painting. Building on exisitng skills, you will be taught how to paint a forest. You will complete a landscape painting in acrylic based on a photo reference. Working from photographs, tuition is provided through a mixture of demonstrations and exercises according to your needs, as well as informal group critiques and discussions, all helping to increase your knowledge and enjoyment of landscape painting.

The course covers tips and tricks on how to successfully paint different trees.

Selecting appropriate photo references
Analising examples of forest painting in the work of different artists
Colour theory& mixing: saturated versus non saturated colours
Depicting details: hard edges versus soft edges
Blending, layering and impasto technique

This course is programmed as part of the Miner2Major Landscape Partnership scheme, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
