About this course

This course helps you develop spontaneous speaking and understand more complex language. You’ll discuss themes such as travel experiences, technology, books and films, work and volunteering, news, and debates. You’ll revise and combine present, past, and future tenses, while also learning structures for comparisons, giving advice, and defending viewpoints. Each week will include rich cultural content—from learning about Quebec to current debates in order to deepen your knowledge and fluency.

Designed for confident post-beginner/next step learners, this course will help you refine your French through engaging discussion, practical grammar revision, and stimulating cultural themes. You’ll build fluency by revisiting key tenses—present, past (passé composé), and future (futur proche)—and combining them more flexibly in conversation. The course also introduces useful structures for making comparisons and offering advice, helping you speak more clearly and naturally. A wide range of thematic vocabulary will support discussion on topics such as media, technology, travel, and social issues. Sessions will focus on speaking and listening, giving you frequent opportunities to practise expressing opinions, narrating experiences, and taking part in interactive tasks.

Authentic cultural materials from the Francophone world will inspire lively debate and expand your understanding of how language is used in context.

This course is ideal for you if:

  • You can already use past and future tenses and want to speak more naturally and spontaneously.

  • You’re interested in discussing more in-depth topics and expressing opinions with greater accuracy.

  • You want to explore cultural themes from across the Francophone world to add depth to your language skills.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Speak more fluently about past and future experiences, using a variety of tenses.

  • Express detailed opinions and preferences on topics like media and technology.

  • Use comparative structures and make polite recommendations.

  • Discuss and respond to news articles or cultural debates.

  • Plan and describe travel itineraries using appropriate language and resources.

  • Talk confidently about cultural topic of your choice in French.
