Explore the borough of Gedling like never before as we study the area’s rich history, heritage, and hidden gems. Whether you’re a proud local, a budding tour guide, or simply passionate about discovering new places to visit, this course will give you fresh insights and inspiration to see Gedling with new eyes.
This exciting course is perfect for anyone curious about what makes the borough of Gedling unique – from its beautiful parks and peaceful nature reserves to its impressive old buildings and historic landmarks.
The course will cover local industry such as textiles, brewing and mining, and we’ll feature war, rebellion and religion; and important people from the borough will be highlighted, from the worlds of science, art, poetry, sport and more. The areas featured include Arnold, Calverton, Burton Joyce, Carlton, Daybrook, Gedling Village, Lambley, Linby, Netherfield, and Woodborough, plus historic venues like Newstead Abbey and Bestwood Lodge.
You will help produce a Gedling tour and compile a top ten list of places of importance and discover what could be done to attract more visitors.
By the end of the course, you will:
• Be able to describe Gedling’s early history.
• Be able to discuss different industries that have featured prominently in Gedling.
• Be able to list several historic venues within the borough and explain their importance.
• Be able to name five famous people from Gedling borough.
• Contribute to a heritage trail which the class will create during the course.
• Compile a Top Ten list of venues that can attract visitors.

To enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.
Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required). As we no longer receive funding for our ESFA funded courses for learners living in the devolved areas listed below, full cost fees would apply to these courses if you live in these areas:
