What are the aims of the course?
Enjoy your time with Geometry now. The course encourages your creativity and small world play. You will discover that you can produce your best DIY origami and geometric toys. Throughout the course, you will come across various mathematical aspects which can help promote your wellbeing and social skills. Both the Maths and social skills will benefit your brain and mind. You will have a great time during the session. Let’s do it together!
What will be covered on the course?
The course will cover with the following content:
• Using origami to learn and teach geometry. Understanding the names and the properties of different geometric shapes, the learners can make different pretty and lovely 2D origami pieces/units.
• Learners will know that most origami patterns require symmetrical work as well as working on fractions & angles.
• Attempting to create origami, learners will extend their Maths skills and promote their fine-motor and eye-coordinator skills.
What will learners achieve by the end of the course?
Upon the completion of the course, you will be able to:
• Recognise and match at least 3 common geometric 2D shape names.
• Describe different 2D shapes with their properties. e.g., faces, sides, vertices.
• Analyse and apply lines of symmetry, fractions and angles in geometric paper forms.
• Create and produce two or more interesting origami pieces or geometric toys in the session.
What skills or knowledge do learners already need to have to attend the course?
This course is for people who don’t have a level 2 qualification in maths (GCSE C/4 or above). You will self-declare this on the enrolment form
