About this course

About this course

The course offers you an in-depth approach to glass painting, more suitable for improvers. The course helps you to create faux stained glass designs effect on a 3D object. It is an easy and user-friendly alternative to classic stained glass techniques, which can take years to perfect. You will choose the design and during the course you will be taught different methods and techniques to apply the glass paint to end up with a unique handmade design.

By the end of the course you will decorate at least one glass object (a jar/a vase / a candle light). You will become more confident in painting on a non- porous surface.

You will be taught:

  • Transfer and trace the design and apply the outliner on the glass object
  • Colour mixing – how to use complementary colours to add interest
  • Glass painting techniques
  • Correcting mistakes when applying the outliner and the paint
  • Protect the surface by applying a layer of water base varnish (silk or gloss)

Resources to bring to this course:

  • Water base glass paint, outliner (black, gold or silver), palette, a range of synthetic paint brushes, a solvent (such as white spirit), a 20x 30cm sheet of glass and frame, Wilko water base varnish,  a simple design (photo reference)
  • The art materials are to be discussed during the first session of the course when the tutor will cover the topic.

This course is subsidised as part of the Miner2Major Landscape Partnership scheme
