About this course

A talk about a local man (Mansfield Woodhouse) who few people know about yet is famous the world over! This talk has been written especially as part of the Miner 2 Major project, which celebrates the rich heritage of Sherwood Forest. Hayman was a hundred years ahead of his time in much of his work and thinking. He appears to have been the almost perfect gentleman, with friends in the highest circles of society, who aimed to please everyone. Coming from a military family he operated with precision and detailed planning; but what did he do, you ask? Well, after leaving the army he became a meteorologist, archaeologist and arboriculturist with a keen interest in Druids, Roman England, forestry, fungi, waterfalls, astronomy, and rock formations. He was a keen artist, which, led him to either sketch or paint his countless findings and provide many illustrations to support the research of many contemporaries. What was his speciality? It was to show how all things work together and consequently many study disciplines need to be studied together and not separately.

This talk takes place on the ground floor meeting room at Mansfield Woodhouse Library, please arrive in time for a prompt 2pm start.. Please note there is no parking at the library.
