Applying for jobs has changed, and it can feel as though your CV is disappearing into a void. On the Job Hunting in Today's UK Job Market course, you will discover how the UK job market really works today, from vacancies that are never advertised to the software that filters applications before a person sees them. You will learn practical, low-cost ways to update your CV, build a professional online presence, spot job scams and prepare with confidence for modern interviews, including video and AI-scored ones. You will also try out AI tools as your own job-hunting assistant and find ways to keep the stress of job hunting manageable. Whether you are returning to work, changing career or looking for your first job, everyone is welcome.

During the course we will look at what has changed in the UK job market and why sending the same CV to hundreds of adverts no longer works. You will find out about the hidden job market, how to use job boards and job alerts well, how “Easy Apply” buttons work and what employers are really looking for now, including transferable skills, reliability, communication and digital confidence.

We will explore how AI and applicant tracking systems screen CVs, and you will learn how to write a modern, clear CV with short, achievement-focused bullet points, the right keywords and a strong skills section, tailored to each job. We will also look at building a professional online presence (including LinkedIn), how to check that an employer is genuine, and how to spot the warning signs of job scams.

Finally, we will prepare for today’s interviews, including video interviews, AI-scored interviews, scenario-based questions and timed tasks. You will practise the STAR method for telling your story, and learn how to give strong answers about your strengths and weaknesses. Throughout the course you will try out AI tools safely, and we will talk about managing job-hunting stress and building a simple routine and action plan you can start using straight away.

No previous experience is needed. It is helpful, but not essential, to be able to use a phone, tablet or computer to get online, and to bring an existing CV (even an out-of-date one) to work on.

The course includes discussion, short demonstrations, group activities and time to practise, with support from your tutor throughout.
