About this course

This course is part of the Miner2Major scheme, which aims to reconnect local people to Sherwood Forest’s sense of place, varied landscapes and cultural heritage. In this course, you will be taught the importance of using a sketchbook effectively as a tool for visual recording of your findings. With practical advice on fundamentals of colour, of colour mixing, techniques and exploring composition ideas, learners can develop the necessary skills to approach a landscape painting using acrylics to achieve exciting and dramatic effects.

Working with our professional art tutor, on this course you will undertake the following:

Artist research
Working out innovative, dynamic compositions (sketching & rules of composition)
Prepare the painting surface
Lay out a palette
Mix the paint (on a pallete or directly on the canvas' surface)
Painting techniques: impasto, scumbling, sgrafitto and blending
Apply the paint (acrylics) on the surface using painting techniques (palette knife)
Varnishing.

By the end of this course you will know how to compose the design based on a photo reference using acrylics. The course is aimed to give you a good understanding of the processes by using examples and demonstrations. We will explore how perspective can be used to create the atmosphere of an semi-abstracted landscape.

acrylic paper/sketch pad, C
admium Red, Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Yellow, Lemon Yellow, Cobalt Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Burnt Umber, and Titanium and Zinc White acrylic paint,
white acrylic gesso,
palette,
glycerin,
spray bottle,
a range of synthetic paint brushes,
graphite pencils,
metal palette knife,
silicone spatula,
baby wipes,
cotton rags,
