About this course

Macramé is relaxing and therapeutic craft, as it keeps your hands busy and gives your mind time to rest.

This course is great for those that have tried Macrame and want to develop their skills. You will develop your knowledge of macrame knots, (from Square, Half knots and Double Half Hitches) to Button Knot, Picot Knot, and using combinations of knots from previously courses to create diamonds, fishbone etc. By the end of the course you will be able to plan and design your own piece, either wall hanging, pot hanger, jewellery items etc.

Materials will depend on learners project; but parcel string, shoe laces or embroidery floss can be used to practice knots. If you have a specific project in mind, let the tutor known.

Suggested materials

Small Wall-hanging – wooden stick or dowel (30cm), 20m of 5mm 3 ply macrame cord (3mm can be also be used)
Large wall-hanging - wooden stick or dowel (160cm), 530m of 3mm 3 ply macrame cord

What will be covered on the course?

Within the course learners will gain an understanding of;
Macrame equipment
Macrame knots

What will learners achieve by the end of the course?

Develop/improve their eye and hand coordination
Develop/Use counting skills & measuring – Be able to calculate the requirements of cord for a project
Analyse the benefits of creative activities to improved mental health
Have the understanding of the basic Macrame Knots - Larks Head
Have the understanding of the basic Macrame Knots - Square Knot
Have the understanding of the basic Macrame Knots - Half Knot
Have the understanding of the basic Macrame Knots – Picot and Button Knot
Have the understanding of the basic Macrame Knots - Cording - Double Half Hitch
By able to plan and create a designs with combination of knots
Completed some small projects in Macrame

None of the items are essential but the ones with (*)= recommend to get the best of the course

Materials & Equipment Required:

Macrame cord (*) - require 3 or 5mm cord
Alternative – Piping cord, Parcel String is great to practice with, alternative macrame cord, or jute cord
Knotting Board/Cork board – a guide how to make one will be included in session one (so don’t go out and purchase one)
T – Pins or holding pins (useful but not essential)
Split Key ring (great for making some projects and sample pieces)
Curtain ring (depends on project )
Dowel or stick (depends on project )
Scissors (*)
