Step into a relaxed, creative space where paper, paint, and fabric come together to form unique landscape-inspired artworks. In this uplifting four-week course, you’ll learn how to layer a rich variety of materials - acrylic paint, printed papers, found textures, and simple hand stitching - to build your own expressive mixed media landscape.
Working from either your own photographs or those provided, you’ll experiment with composition, colour, and texture to create a one-of-a-kind collage on paper or canvas. Whether your inspiration is rolling hills, a city skyline, or a windswept beach, you’ll be guided through every step of the process with encouragement and practical tips.
This course welcomes complete beginners as well as those who want to expand their creative toolkit. It’s a chance to switch off, explore, and create something personal in a friendly and supportive setting.
Over four creative sessions, you will explore how to:
Use different materials and textures to create depth in a landscape collage
Select and simplify imagery to build a striking composition
Combine paper, fabric, and paint with confidence
Use stitching and layering to add dimension and detail
Develop your creative voice while exploring how art can support wellbeing
Plan and document your next creative steps beyond the course
What will learners achieve by the end of the course?
Demonstrate how to begin a project
Use both primary (own photos) and secondary (given images) research to plan a creative response
Show how to use and apply different materials and mediums
Combine at least three different mediums in a finished collage to add visual interest and texture
Express yourself creatively using a variety of mixed media techniques
Use selected materials and techniques to express your unique response to a landscape image
Explain how art can have a positive impact on mental health and wellbeing
Reflect on and discuss how engaging in creative activity can support wellbeing, using personal or researched examples
Demonstrate a range of mixed media skills that could be used in your own projects
Apply at least three newly learned skills in a personal piece that blends multiple techniques
Plan next steps as an artist, including finding new opportunities to practise and further develop your skills
