Over three sessions, you’ll explore how to combine macramé, weaving, and embellishment techniques to create your own mixed media wall hanging. You’ll learn how to begin with a simple macramé base and then build texture and visual interest by adding woven sections, hand-stitching, and decorative elements like beads or found materials. You’ll be introduced to a variety of techniques and materials and encouraged to experiment with your own combinations to create a unique piece. You don’t need to have any experience in textiles or crafts—this course is suitable for all levels.
By the end of the course, you’ll have completed a small, personalised wall hanging and gained the confidence to apply these techniques in future textile or mixed media projects.
What will learners achieve by the end of the course?
• Tie at least two basic macramé knots to create the structure of a hanging.
• Incorporate simple weaving techniques to add texture and pattern to their piece.
• Use basic hand-stitching and embellishment (e.g. beads or buttons) to add surface detail.
• Select and combine different yarns, fabrics, and even recycled materials creatively.
