About this course

This course is designed to teach you maths skills that are useful in everyday life and grow in confidence using maths. 

This unit will be ‘Meal Planning and Cooker free Food Preparation’ and will explore how technology can save time and help you meet your food goals. 

Learners will learn to work with decimals and use metric measurements to make some tasty drinks and packed lunches.

What will be covered on the course?

Number – Decimals

1. Be able to read and write decimal numbers up to 3 places

2. Be able to compare decimals up to 3 places

3. Be able to add and subtract decimals up to 2 places


Length, Weight and Capacity

1. Be able to record length

2. Be able to record weight

3. Be able to record capacity

4. Be able to carry out calculations within the same system of measurement


People on the course will gain a credit towards a Level 1 City and Guilds math’s qualification and gain a certificate on the final week subject to them completing the module successfully.

Please note there is no formal exam to take and learners can work at their own pace with the help and guidance of the course tutor.

What skills or knowledge do learners already need to have to attend the course?

No particular skills or qualifications  are necessary. 

This course is for people who don’t have a level 2 qualification in maths (GCSE C/4 or above). You will self-declare this on the enrolment form.

There will also be a £10 supermarket voucher issued for learners who attend all of the 5 sessions.

To secure your place on the course BOTH the following must be done:

  • Complete our INSPIRE ONLINE ENROLMENT FORM for each person attending the course.

You should be redirected to the Inspire Online Enrolment Form after completing the Eventbrite booking.  If you are not redirected, please use the link supplied in the Eventbrite booking confirmation email.

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).

As we no longer receive funding for our ESFA-funded courses for learners living in the devolved areas listed below, full cost fees would apply to these courses if you live in these areas:
