Get into the festive spirit with this creative and relaxing Christmas Needle Felting course!
You will learn how to use felting needles and wool fibres to create beautiful handmade decorations, including Christmas baubles and a cheerful festive gonk. Whether you’re new to needle felting or have tried it before, this course will guide you step by step to make something special for your home or to give as a gift.
Over the two sessions, you will be introduced to safe and effective needle felting techniques using soft wool fibers. Through guided demonstrations and hands-on practice, you’ll develop the confidence to create your own festive felted decorations.
In Lesson 1, you’ll discover how to shape and decorate Christmas baubles, learning how to roll, layer, and sculpt wool to form smooth, rounded shapes. You’ll explore simple methods for blending colours and adding surface details such as patterns, stars, or snowflakes to personalise each design.
In Lesson 2, you’ll build on these skills to create a festive gonk/gnome, developing techniques for constructing 3D forms and securely attaching features like hats, noses, and beards. You’ll also have the opportunity to experiment with adding small embellishments or creating your own unique character.
Throughout the course, you’ll be supported through step-by-step demonstrations and individual guidance, with plenty of time to experiment, ask questions, and enjoy the creative process.
What you will need to bring to the course:
• A felting mat or sponge pad
• Felting needles
• Small selection of wool roving (festive colours such as red, green, white, and grey)
• Any small embellishments you’d like to add (e.g. ribbon, beads, bells – optional)
If you receive certain benefits you will be offered the course for free, however if you have a financial barrier which may prevent you from enrolling on the course, please visit our funding page for further information.
