About this course

The aims of the course are to introduce learners to the art of origami.

The session will focus on simple models including a penguin, cat and dog’s head and a swan.

What will be covered on the course?

Some basic origami folds and how to make 4 origami models of increasing difficulty.
How to follow origami instructions,
How to follow a diagram
Simple geometry skills including identifying shapes, angles, proportion and ratio.

What will learners achieve by the end of the course? Learners will be able to make 4 origami models.

Understand basic origami terms.
Follow origami instructions.
Follow the tutor’s demonstration.
Identify simple geometry skills including identifying shapes, angles, proportion and ratio
Know how to take their interest in origami further if they wish to do so.

What skills or knowledge do learners already need to have to attend the course?

Learners need to be able to follow simple verbal instructions and be in a position to watch the screen whilst folding paper on a flat surface such as a table. So it would help to position their viewing device on the table ensuring they can use their hands to follow the instructions.

Learners will need to have at least 4 sheets of square paper preferably at least 15 x 15 cm per person. Some learners may prefer to work with larger paper.

Preferably the paper should be commercially produced origami paper as this is usually more accurately cut than home produced paper.

The paper should have two sides which are colored differently to each other, one side can be white, as this makes following instructions easier.

Origami paper can be purchased very cheaply online or from sellers on ebay or from retailers such as ‘The Works’.
