About this course

The course is suitable for learners with some experience of drawing and painting, including those who attended the Painting Reflections - Beginners course.

Water is one of the most sought-out subjects in paintings. In this course, you will learn valuable pointers on painting water reflections taking into consideration several conditions of water in nature, which are important to consider when planning a landscape painting.

The course covers tips and tricks on how to successfully paint water reflection. With careful observation, you will notice how water, is affected by its surroundings, reflections, depth, and clarity. Learners will be taught:

Selecting appropriate photo references
Analising examples of water reflection in the work of different artists
Understanding the shapes & angles reflected in the water
Colour mixing: saturated versus non saturated colours
Learning how to use complementary colours
Depicting details: hard edges versus soft edges
Blending, layering and impasto technique

30 x 40 cm stretched canvas
Canvas board
Acrylic paper
Sketch pad
Acrylic paint* (Cadmium Red, Alizarin Crimson, Magenta, Cadmium Yellow, Lemon Yellow, Cobalt Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Burnt Umber, Titanium White acrylic paint), white acrylic gesso, palette, glycerin
Spray bottle
A range of synthetic paint brushes
Graphite pencils
Metal palette knife
Silicone spatula
Baby wipes
Cotton rags

The art materials are to be discussed during the first session of the course when the tutor will cover the topic.
