In this online course, we will gain a deeper imaginative understanding of some classic and contemporary poems by pairing them with paintings which reflect their themes.. It is a poetry course, not an art history course but we will learn more about the artists and their times throughout the course. No previous experience or qualifications required, just a willingness to share your emotional and imaginative responses with others in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere
What will be covered on the course?
Each week we will look at 2, sometimes 3 poems, alongside some paintings which will offer another dimension of understanding as we look at the poems in detail. We will look at the poets’ lives and the times they lived in. as well as some elements of meaning, form, structure, rhyme schemes and sound.
Learners will be encouraged to make their own imaginative connections between the works and share their own experiences. We will also discuss the paintings and the artists intentions and the emotional impact of the paintings, particularly as they relate to the poems.
What will learners achieve by the end of the course?
By the end of the course, the learners will more confident about reading and enjoying poetry
