About this course

To look at a number of films with poems in them from ‘Four Weddings and Funeral’ to ‘Spiderman’ : with the aim of: 

• Inspiring and equipping learners to enjoy poetry more 
• Engage with familiar and unfamiliar poems  the context of a film 
• Looking at meaning , form and structure of poem and what this achieves in the film 
• To enable leaners to  develop  tools to approach and analyse a poem

What will be covered on the course?  What will be taught to learners? 

Learners will: 

• Be supported to express their opinions confidently  
• Learn ways of uncovering the meaning of poem 
• Look at various techniques poets use to make a poem effective 
• Learn more about a variety of poets and their lives 
• Learn more about the impact of a poem in the context of  a film 

What will learners achieve by the end of the course? 

• Have developed a wider range of tools to approach and understand a poem 
• Learned more about a variety of poets, their lives and times 
• Learned more about the structure, form, rhythm and language of poetry 
• Understand the variety of ways a poem can have an impact in a film context 

As this course is online, a suitable device such as laptop, smart phone, tablet or computer will be required to access the course.  Zoom will be used for the live sessions and the link will be sent to you once your enrolment has been completed.

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).

As we no longer receive funding for our ESFA-funded courses for learners living in the devolved areas listed below, full cost fees would apply to these courses if you live in these areas:
