About this course

About this course

Mono-printing Next Steps will give beginners to printmaking the opportunity to explore some simple mono-printing techniques and those with print experience to combine and develop more complex images. Mono-printing processes are varied, experimental and fun and can be used individually or in combination to create one-off, unique images. During the course you will be introduced to relief mono-printing from different selected, textured surfaces and stencil mono-printing.

You will learn and explore these processes through looking at and discussing other printmakers work and by demonstrations and personal experimentation. You will receive individual tuition on how to select print source materials, how to compose your work, mix inks and print your image.

By the end of the course everyone will have produced good quality, finished prints to mount and exhibit or to give as gifts.

The course will involve:

  • Looking at and discussing how other printmakers have created their mono-prints.
  • Selecting source materials (textured papers) and learners own drawings or photographs to use a starting point for print.
  • Producing effective examples of both mono-printing techniques.
  • Becoming familiar with the printmaking equipment and learning the correct terminology.
  • Mixing and using water soluble inks.
  • Printing safely using a printing press.

What will learners achieve by the end of the course?

  • The skills to use relief and stencil mono-print techniques creatively and effectively.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the breadth of different approaches and techniques used by practicing printmakers.
  • Confidence using printmaking media and equipment safely.
  • Confidence in their own creative skills and ability.
