About this course

• Learners will be introduced to the gentle, creative art of paper quilling, also known as filigree or scroll work. 
• In plain English quilling is making pictures from curled, coiled and scrolled, coloured, paper strips.  
• Quilled shapes can be combined to make objects such as hearts, flowers and butterflies. 
• Picture making through quilling is a wonderfully creative, relaxing, when done mindfully, and is an excellent means of self-expression. 

What will be covered on the course?  

• Learners will be shown how to make a variety of quilling shapes including, coils and scrolls 
• They will learn the correct names for these shapes and how to combine them to make a quilled heart, quilled flower, a festive decoration and quilled butterflies. 
• We will also look briefly at the history of quilling and also consider examples of quilling from different cultures. 

What will learners achieve by the end of the course?  

Learners will:  

• Know five facts about the history of quilling, 
• How to make quilling shapes from paper coils and scrolls, 
• Produce at least five quilled shapes and be able to name them. 
• Produce at least 4 quilled pieces including a heart, flower and butterfly. 
• Be able to post examples of their work on Padlet. 
• Know where to find out more about quilling to take their interest further. 

What skills or knowledge do learners already need to have to attend the course? 

• Learners will need to be able to roll strips of paper using a quilling tool. 

Learners will require -

• Learners will require a  Quilling pen/slotted tool which are also available on line eBay or from retailers such as HobbyCraft from about £2:00.  
• Learners will need quilling paper  5mm,strips.which can be purchased very cheaply from eBay for as little as £2.60 and in craft shops such as HobbyCraft.  
• Home cut strips or shredded and recycled paper can also be used.  The Works have recently been offering a Quilling Pack for £4:00 

Learners will also require the following: 

• PVA Glue. 
• A sheet of baking paper to work on. 
• Cocktail Sticks or similar to use as glue sticks, 
• Stiff card for mounting these may be postcard size or A5. This can either be individual sheets or blank greeting cards. 
• A pair of tweezers. 
• A ruler.
• A receptacle for glue such as a plastic Yogurt top or a small square of polythene.

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).
