In the Repeat Pattern Lino printing for paper and fabric course we will be learning how to make simple and complex repeat patterns for print. We will use these patterns to create Lino cuts, which we will print as repeats on paper and fabric.
No previous printing or textiles experience is necessary, just an interest and curiosity to learn new things!
During the course you will:
learn how to select appropriate source materials from your own or supplied source material (photographs or drawings).
use these images to develop your own repeat patterns.
select your best design to develop into a Lino and then print it as a repeat to create a range of samples using different colourways.
select and mix your own printing inks. Your final selected design will be printed on a larger scale.
explore the potential of the process through discussion of other designers' work and by demonstrations, personal experimentation and individual tuition.
By the end of the course everyone will have explored and gained confidence both designing repeat patterns and cutting and printing lino prints on to fabric and paper, which have the potential to be turned into every day, useful products like tote bags or cushion covers. You will also gain a range of skills for future art and design work.
What will learners achieve by the end of the course?
You will be able to:
Discuss how designers have used repeat patterns and lino printing to produce creative imagery.
Produce an effective, creative, repeat pattern design.
Use markmaking and contrast effectively to cut lino design.
Mix water soluble relief inks to print effective lino repeat prints onto paper and fabric.
Select and develop effective colourways for print.
Use vocational language and terminology effectively to discuss and explain your work.
