This course is designed to give you the tools required to explore becoming self-employed or volunteering in the holistic industry. This course is great as a starter or as an awareness if you are recently new to self-employment On this course, we will look at what the cobra system is and how this relates to Nottinghamshire Libraries.
We will cover the basics of select therapies and what certificate levels are required to become self-employed in those fields. You will go through the legalities required, and what insurance cover is required. Look into local authorities, who to notify and when, during the business startup process. We will also touch upon business banking basics. Setting up your UTR (unique tax reference number) and research if you need to be part of any associations related to your holistic therapy. Finally, we will explore marketing and website design - should you pay or design your own? The information is based on Wix sites. (others are available) We will also cover how to self-promote through social media. You will understand how to use hashtags to optimise your visibility through Search Engine Optimisation (SEO).
What will learners achieve by the end of the course?
- Recognise different therapies within the holistic umbrella and Discuss qualifications required for self-employment
- Clarify legalities required and execute the right path for your business
- Manage your own website and / or use an outside company for Design
- Build a social media profile and formulate self promotion using hashtags and seo
- If you are with the uk reiki federation(or other governing bodies the certificate for this course - will go towards the courses attended for the year's cpd.
What you will need to bring to the course:
It is advisable to bring a bottle of water to keep you hydrated. Along with pen and paper for notes/journal purposes

Residency Eligibility – other criteria
If you are living in the UK on a visa we will require evidence of this in order to be funded for the course, you can upload this evidence when you apply for the course. (completion of a questionnaire will be required).
Some exceptions may apply for example
Your visa expiry date must be beyond the end of your course
Asylum seekers must have lived in the UK for 6 months or longer while their claim is being considered by the Home Office
You are receiving local authority support under section 23C or section 23CA of the Children Act 1989 or the Care Act 2014
Any learner who is not funded full cost fees would apply to these courses.
