About this course

The M2M scheme aims to reconnect local people to Sherwood Forest’s sense of place, varied landscapes and cultural heritage. In this course, you will be taught how to draw the Sherwood landscape. You will complete several compositions using dry media. Working from photographs, tuition is provided through a mixture of demonstrations and exercises according to your needs, as well as informal group critiques and discussions, all helping to increase your knowledge and enjoyment of landscape drawing. The course is suitable for beginners.

By the end of the course you will become more confident in landscape drawing, depicting depth and perspective.

The course covers tips and tricks on how to successfully draw trees.

Selecting appropriate photo references
Analising examples of landscape drawing in the work of different artists
Understanding the differences between different dry media (graphite pencils, charcoal, pastels, coloured pencils)
Depicting details: hard edges versus soft edges
Layering and blending technique

Acrylic paper
Sketch pad
Graphite pencils

Coloured pencils

The art materials are to be discussed during the first session of the course when the tutor will cover the topic.
