About this course

In this course, you will learn how to draw and paint still life in the style of Van Gogh. During the course you will complete several exercises and one still life painting using acrylics. The course is suitable for beginners.

This course focuses on how to arrange shapes and apply vivid colours on the painting surface to achieve interesting visual effects

- Selecting appropriate photo references

- Analysing examples of still life painting in the work of Van Gogh

- Prepare the surface to receive the painting

- Sketch the composition on paper and canvas

- Work with complementary colours and the ‘impasto’ technique

- Varnishing

Acrylic or watercolour paper, white acrylic gesso, 30x 40cm stretched canvas, acrylic paint, palette knife (not plastic), glycerin*, spray bottle, synthetic brushes, pencils, palette, apron, baby wipes, cotton rags , photo references.

The art materials are to be discussed during the first session of the course when the tutor will cover the topic.
