About this course

During the course we will be focusing on using a range of techniques and skills including how to create the lily of the valley flower. Following demonstrations by the tutor for each element of the lily of the valley flower, you will learn how to roll the buds, how to cut, wire, soften and arrange the buds into a stem.

You will then select some of these techniques to develop your own skills and knowledge. No previous experience will be required. You will learn about how you can use these techniques creatively, by looking at and discussing various books and websites who influences and motivates.

By the end of the course everyone will have explored and gained confidence in a range of creative techniques, you will produce a beautiful lily of the valley flower stem to top any special occasion or celebration cake, this flower can be used as a pretty filler flower.

You will gain skills and knowledge to progress onto further learning through progression courses or consider career opportunities.

What you will need to bring to the course:

Sugar florist paste colours of choice: examples: white, yellow.

Non-stick board

Non-stick rolling pin

FMM small daisy cutter or blossom cutter

Ball tool

Cell pad

Edible glue and brush

Scissors

Wire cutters

30-gauge white florist wires (5 cm lengths)

24-gauge wire – carrier wire

Small knife for cutting the paste

Florist tape Moss green

Dusting powders, Foliage green

Dusting brushes

Note pad and pen

Apron and suitable container to carry home in.

Residency in England

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must be living in England permanently and live outside of the devolved areas listed below or live within the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA) devolved area (Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire).

Residency Eligibility – other criteria

If you are living in the UK on a visa we will require evidence of this in order to be funded for the course, you can upload this evidence when you apply for the course. (completion of a questionnaire will be required).

Some exceptions may apply for example

  • Your visa expiry date must be beyond the end of your course

  • Asylum seekers must have lived in the UK for 6 months or longer while their claim is being considered by the Home Office

  • You are receiving local authority support under section 23C or section 23CA of the Children Act 1989 or the Care Act 2014

Any learner who is not funded, full cost fees would apply to these courses.
