About this course

What are the aims of the course?  

  • To equip learners with the skills needed to get back into the workplace. 

What will be covered on the course? 


Session 1: getting to work 

  • Reading timetables, understanding the 24H clock and duration. Useful transport apps and money saving tickets. 

Session 2: applying for a job 

  • Online forms, looking at different numerical data formats (DOB, dates). Listing previous employment chronologically. Understanding a wage slip. 

Session 3: budgeting 

  • The cost of getting to work and being at work e.g. transport costs, childcare, lunch etc. Useful apps to help with budgeting.  

What will learners achieve by the end of the course? 

Learners will be able to: 

  • Read a bus timetable by searching for a bus to arrive a designated time and place via an app. 
  • Fill in a simple online form with the correct data format. 
  • Create a personalised budget which includes transport, living and lunch costs. 

On completion of this course, you may like to consider enrolling on the Functional Skills Maths (level 2) course. Having a Level 2 (GCSE C or above) is a great asset on your CV and could widen your job opportunities. 


What skills or knowledge do learners already need to have to attend the course? 


 This course is for people who don’t have a level 2 qualification in maths (GCSE C/4 or above). You will self-declare this on the enrolment form. 

On completion of this course, you will be entered into a prize draw. The winner will receive food shopping vouchers.

To secure your place on the course BOTH the following must be done:

  • Complete the EVENTBRITE BOOKING.
  • Complete our INSPIRE ONLINE ENROLMENT FORM for each person attending the course.

You should be redirected to the Inspire Online Enrolment Form after completing the Eventbrite booking.  If you are not redirected, please use the link supplied in the Eventbrite booking confirmation email.

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).
